5This is a pretty cool little Wireless Access Point
By quenlin
I bought this for use with my RX-V573 since the electrician failed to install the network jack in my AV closet. I gave this 5 stars because it works awesome, is well built and the WPS setup is simple.

The only thing I wish Yamaha would send with these little gadgets is a usb to ac adapter. My 573 has a usb input on the front, but when you try to do something like a network firmware update to the 573, it wont work because it has to reboot and this causes the YMA-10BL to shut off also and you will loose network.

Anyway, its really not a big deal. I am currently using my Iphone usb to ac adapter and have the YWA-10BL pluged directly into the wall. This works great and with the power always on, I dont have to go hit the WPS button on my router every time I want to control my 573 with my iphone or stream music to it.

It also comes with a second network jack which can come in very handy.

Yamaha has never let me down, but maybe the next version will come with a cool usb to ac adapter with the Yamaha logo on the side of it.

Last and not least, Amazon rules!!! I live in Alaska and always get my stuff exactly when they say I will get it and many times quicker. Also free shipping on most items. Some companies are still under the impression that UPS doesnt ship ground to Alaska and that Alaska isnt located in the "Continental" United States. Its always fun to reply with, what continent do you think we are on?

2It's just a pain to mess with
By Patrick Robinson
The unit itself gets power from the USB port...fine...but if you want to do the firmware update you must download the data to a flash drive to update your receiver because the unit shuts the power off to the YWA...annoying but ok...
But trying to get Airplay to work is just truly annoying. It will play audio but not video and if you have an Apple TV too...(the YWA enables the iPad and iPhone apps) it's never clear which unit, which input, which configuration you are in.

So..to watch a video from your iPad? Sorry..can't do it using the YWA-10 since it's very, very finicky about what it accepts.

Yamaha tech support is amusing too...poor guys...they honestly have very little clue of the morass they are dealing with...and are apologetic.

When I told them I have a Mac...they said, "can you borrow a Windows PC? We know how to hook that up."

hilarious. The YWA is not a very sophisticated product, costs $100, and is really only useful for a couple of things...Pandora...Net Radio (really?)...and the functions on the ipad ...otherwise...just avoid this thing.

1Flakey
By John Munyan
This thing is really a mixed bag. I am pretty technically astute but activating this on my network was a pain in the butt. I tried using the WPS manual entry method with no success. Using the automated push button approach worked but tweaked my router. In the end I was able to get it going but it took over an hour of cajoling.

Even worse is just how sketchy the firmware is on the device. On several occasions I have had it 'sort of work'. Example: Just today I couldn't figure out why airplay wouldn't work. No matter what it just wouldn't. So I was looking at the yamaha iphone app for the receiver and was able to play music off my phone using the receivers 'server' function. So the phone was talking to the receiver as you would expect airplay to be.

I was at a loss as to how I could play music from the phone to the receiver but not using airplay.

So I unplugged the yamaha wireless adapter and powered it back on.

Result? Airplay is working.

Long story short - if you get this thing and something acts funky...reboot it.
