Yamaha 3020

I would have to say the reciever is by far the best one I have ever owned. Setup literally took 5 mins, (of course all the cables and wires were already ran). I have a 5.2 setup with 4 reference speakers going (so yeah all 9 amps being used) and the sound quality rivals the sound you would expect from going to a nice movie theater. I the one thing I noticed though is the auto setup likes to recreate a super realistic sound, meaning not much base in the mix. So I end up turning down my subs about 1/4 turn during the setup phase and then turn them back to were I like them, and it sounds great. The navigation of the menu is really easy. I cant even come close to telling you how many futures the reciever has... probably more than I will ever use. I like the Idea of it being UltraHD (4K) capable for when the newer TVs come out on the market.
I would recommend this reciever to anyone who wants to purchase a High Reciever.

Both sonically and a visually stunning

There are more than enough superlatives in the other 5-Star reviews.
However, some reviews of Yamaha audio tonality characterize them as "hot" or sizzling. Personally, with exceptional hearing response for someone of my age, I find the return of the high frequencies and transients, largely forgotten in the world of DTS Sub-Woofer madness, very refreshing. The lack of transient response, which leads to mushy sound-stage is what puts many people off of A/V receivers for audiophile-class audio systems. This A/V receiver has the best audio performance of ANY receiver I've own or carefully auditioned, over the past FORTY-FIVE+ years including Sony, Pioneer, Fisher, Onkyo, Maranz, Macintosh, Carver, Lux, AccuPhase, and more. (I purchased my 1st Fisher Receiver, Dual Turntable, and Jensen speakers with I was 16). The RX-A3020 coupled with my audiophile-class speakers may be on-parr with my Carver C-4000 Holographic system running directly into my Philips 545 MFB Studio Monitors. (Think B&W's 802b with top-level Pre and Power amps-level audio reproduction...)
I couldn't be happier with mine for 3d BluRay, Sharp 70" d3, and my Philips Old-School powered studio monitors with 6 Advent surround and presence speakers. I also coupled one of my vinyl turntables to the "phono" input and the response is very smooth with warmth, yet crisp and sharp on the transients. The plethora of sound-stage settings allow for optimization of playback of many different styles of music from Heavy-Metal to Jazz to Classical to Opera, and so forth.
The YPAO R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) Sound Optimization with Speaker Angle Measurement speaker adjustment setup was faultless, finding all the hot and low spots in my vastly imperfect room. With the tri-amped Philips 545 MFB Studio Monitors in front , a sub woofer or woofers would largely be redundant with the Philips 18 Hhz response. So, I tried my Infinity sub in the rear of the room which is 26 feet long and and 15 feet wide. The rear subwoofer, was identified by the YAO system and properly adjusted. Now the special effects are engulfing without being overpowering. A little spacial low frequency goes a long way... NICE..
Lastly the video processing is magic. I have both direct and through-the-receiver connections for my FIOS TV. If tried some marginal program material though the receiver and the noise reduction and chroma and gamma improvements were profound. I may do away with my direct connection to the TV entirely!
Lastly, I especially like the iPad control app. I wish all my A/V gear had as nice and comprehensive of interface!
If this is the level of receiver you seek. Buy with confidence...
If you don't understand tri-amped Philips 545 MFB Studio Monitors, google them. You'll wonder how we let that technology slip away.

Running full 9.2 surround, Tweaked the auto configuration a little after referencing a few movies. I really like that the receiver is easy to use and fairly intuitive! Not to mention the sound and separation is incredible.

Anti-Resonance Technology Wedge Helps to Ensure that Vibrations Do Not Affect Sound Quality
The Anti-Resonance Technology (A.R.T.) Wedge is a fifth foot in the center of the unit. It dampens vibrations from the power transformer, power transistors and heat sinks, as well as vibrations that might be caused by the sound from the speakers.
High Quality Parts Allow Sound Tuning for Optimum Performance
Every single part in an AV receiver affects the sound quality. For the AVENTAGE models, extra time was taken to find (or develop) exactly the parts wanted and to test them together in prototype units. H-shaped Cross Member Frame

Intelligent Amp Assign
Intelligent Amp Assign automatically assigns amplifier channels to certain speakers, depending on what functions are selected. For example, in a 9.2-channel system, when Zone 2 is off, all 7.1 channels will be used in the Main Zone. However, when Zone 2 is on, power to the two Surround Back channels will be directed to the two speakers and sub in Zone 2, and the Main Zone will receive 5.1 channels of power. Similarly, when CINEMA DSP 3D is on, the two Front Presence speakers will be powered and not the two Surround Back speakers. When CINEMA DSP 3D is off, this situation is reversed. Thanks to Intelligent Amp Assign, there’s no need to switch the speaker cables on the rear of the receiver—one more way Yamaha makes your life a little easier.
Extra-convenient SCENE PLUS
The SCENE PLUS function simplifies operation by providing one touch power-on along with selection of the desired source and the appropriate DSP programs. SCENE PLUS offers a choice of 12 SCENE selections, four of which can be assigned to the second zone in a multi-zone system. SCENE PLUS can be selected from the front panel, remote control, GUI and even from the AV Controller App.
HDMI Front Panel Input
In addition to the large number of HDMI inputs on the rear panel, there is also one on the front panel. This gives you a convenient way to quickly plug in a digital camera or camcorder for highest quality pictures.
Input Selection in HDMI Standby Through Mode
When the AV receiver is in HDMI Standby Through mode, the input source (Blu-ray™ Disc player, game console, etc.) for viewing on the monitor can be changed via the remote control. There’s no need to turn on the AV receiver in order to switch sources.
Compressed Music Enhancer
When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha’s Compressed Music Enhancer employs sophisticated digital signal processing using exclusive algorithms to restore what was lost, so the music always sounds the way it should.

Another benefit of HDMI is the availability of CEC functionality. When the unit is connected to a CEC compatible TV, it will turn on and off together with the TV, and you can use the TV remote to control the volume. CEC also provides advanced functionality with other components. For example, you can use the receiver’s remote unit to control player functions like Skip and Stop. *All connected devices must be HDMI CEC compatible. Some CEC compatible TVs/players may not work.

Subwoofer Trim for Improved Sound Imaging
The Subwoofer Trim Control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. When subwoofer frequency overlap occurs in conventional systems, the overall sound is “pushed” toward the subwoofer. Subwoofer Trim takes care of this by separating the low subwoofer frequencies cleanly, thus stabilizing the front stage while providing a well-balanced, enhanced bass sound.
Dialogue Lift and Dialogue Level Adjustment for natural dialogue and vocals
Dialogue Lift raises the sound of dialogue from the center speaker to a position in the center of the screen. Newly developed virtual dialogue lift achieves dialogue lift function even without the need for presence speakers. Dialogue Level Adjustment lets you control the volume of the vocal sound, so you hear movie dialogue and music vocals at the ideal level for clear, comfortable listening.
Adaptive DRC (Dynamic Range Control)
Adaptive DRC automatically adjusts the dynamic range of the sound according to the volume level. This ensures that you hear clear dialog and vocals, and all sound effects at comfortable levels. There is no need to adjust the volume level as you listen; everything from whispers to big explosions will be heard clearly and comfortably at the same volume setting. It also tones down loud TV commercials, and is ideal for low-volume, late-night listening, when you do not want to disturb others.
ECO mode lowers power consumption by 20%*
Yamaha’s new ECO mode reduces power consumption by about 20%. It can be set from the top of the GUI menu.

Selectable Auto Power Down
Auto Power Down lets you save energy by selecting to turn off the power after 2, 4, 8 or 12 hours.
