Another Winner from Onkyo
By Randy Kalmeta
First of all, the receiver arrived ahead of schedule (thanks, Amazon). It was well packaged, and ready for installation. If you're more comfortable with a full manual, you'll have to print it off the included CD or have your laptop near by to reference it. It isn't really required. All the connectors are clearly marked and, if you have an HDML cable out to your TV or monitor, has an easy to use text based on-screen menu for setup. I connected HDMI cables from our PS3 and our cable TV box as well as speakers for our 5.1 surround setup. Finally I connected the HDMI out to our Sony 46" LED TV. It was a typical Onkyo install, easy and quick.
Once installed and powered up, it sounded superb. I was very impressed with the newfound clarity in my BD movies and sound tracks. The rear surrounds, It's always an audio awakening to hear things you hadn't heard before. To me, that is a great indicator of audio quality and performance and I have yet to be disappointed with Onkyo receivers. A couple of nits, there are no bannana plug connectors for the speakers, so be prepared to have some fun with preparing speaker wires for connecting to the unit. Also, this receiver provides 65 watts per channel of power, which is ample for me, but may be insufficient for larger media rooms. Overall, a great price for a high-quality 5.1 HT receiver.

Ok but not great
By K. Kim
This is my second onkyo receiver and was expecting the same quality as the first. The receiver is paired with a Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Integrated Wi-Fi 3D Blu-ray DVD Player over hdmi. This combination seems to be a problem. The receiver has problems decoding the bitstream data coming from the blu-ray player which results in sound dropping out and once in a while, the video. Research on this issue, and confirmed for my set up, was to change the data coming from the player to PCM (i.e., the player decodes the data rather than having the receiver do it). This is done in the settings menu of the blue ray player and is quite easy to do. There is no loss in either sound or video quality so that is good. But this issue was quite frustrating until I could figure out what was going on. Interestingly, the sound dropping did not happen with my other Panasonic blu ray player (Panasonic DMP-BD65 Blu-Ray Disc Player (Black)). So, not quite ready out of the box but this may not be an issue for other receiver-blu ray player combinations.

Great Choice !
By Phil D'Baskette
Needed a new receiver after lightening destroyed my previous one. I am not an audiophile but I was looking for something of good quality at a reasonable price and I decided to buy this Onkyo. Am I glad I did. It was a snap to install and just as easy to configure. Balancing the speakers could NOT be any EASIER and now I know what Surround Sound is suppose to sound like. I highly Recommend the Onkyo TX-SR313.

From the Manufacturer
Affordable Home Theater Just Got Much Better
Now, Onkyo's acclaimed WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) is in our entry-level A/V receivers. Home theater fans on a budget can now enjoy greater fidelity than ever before. Four HDMI® inputs and one output provide connectivity for your 3D TV, gaming consoles, and BD player, while a USB port offers a clean digital link to your iPod®/iPhone® or flash memory drive. An HDMI-linked interactive on-screen display makes set-up and mid-program adjustment easy. The TX-SR313 decodes a range of high-definition codecs such as Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™. But it's the sound that really sets Onkyo apart, and you can rest assured that with the TX-SR313, you're getting the precision build, power and fidelity that you expect from a more expensive component.
3D Video and Audio Return Channel via HDMI Four HDMI inputs on the TX-SR313 allow seamless integration of high-definition devices such as Blu-ray players, cable/satellite tuners, and gaming consoles. HDMI implementation on this receiver also supports an Audio Return Channel, allowing TV audio to be sent upstream to the A/V receiver. That means you can enjoy television programs in magnificent Onkyo sound. HDMI also supports 3D video and other popular high-resolution formats. | Direct Digital Connection: The Cleanest Your iPod Can Sound The TX-SR313's front-panel USB port lets you play MP3 and AAC stored in an iPod/iPhone, and MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC audio files stored on a flash-memory device, using the system's own remote for track selection and playback. Your music will also sound much cleaner and clearer, as the audio signal is transported in digital rather than analog form through the direct digital connection. |
ONKYO's Proprietary WRAT Technology WRAT improves the fidelity of amplified audio and reduces noise across the frequency range, guaranteeing a well-balanced performance even with the most dynamic soundtracks. It achieves this by employing a low negative-feedback amplifier design; using "closed" ground-loop circuitry to cancel noise from individual circuits; and by ensuring high instantaneous-current capability. Also Onkyo uses discrete transistors, which help guarantee a consistent, stable supply of current to the speaker system for an open and assured performance. | Easy Access For Settings Changes The TX-SR313's overlaid On-Screen Display (OSD) feature makes changing the settings on your A/V receiver quick and easy. On-screen set-up menus appear over the video image you're watching so you can adjust the settings immediately, without having to stop the program and switch to a different screen to access menus. |
