5Easy to use, good sound!!
By aquido
I picked this over Onkyo, Pioneer, Harman, Marantz etc..because I personally prefer Yamaha's sound quality,
And this receiver did not let me down.
It delivers great sound to each channel with enough power.

Also, this is very easy to use, and display set up (GUI) is very helpful as well.
You can edit input names, set distances to speakers and so on...superb!
Menus are straight forward, and remote control is very simple as well.
It could have been better if the buttons on remote were back lit.

HDMI in and out works superbly,
There seems to be a a second of blink when changing HDMI input to/or out of my Mac, but this only happens once at the beginning.
To be honest, it is the first time using HDMI, so I am not too sure if this happens with other receivers as well.

Receiver is much lighter than other receivers I had before,
but filled up with all the options I needed.

Very happy buyer.

(UPDATE 2012.01.02)
Cannot be happier,
It got even better after a month.
Sound tendency is somewhat warm, which I like.

5Finally!
By Gregory Leslie Williams
After returning a Sony unit for humming and a Pioneer for poor video signal transfer from the HDMI out of the amp I purchased the Yamaha. Wow! This unit not only works as described, it also has many features that allow fine tuning your personal settings. Everyone has different tastes in audio and every movie is a little different than the next regarding surround audio. This unit gives you the opportunity to conveniently access the set-up and make changes on the fly via HDMI graphic interface on your TV. You do not need an extra analog cable, as the Pioneer did. The Yamaha uses a graphic-rich menu through the HDMI cable already running to the TV. This means at anytime you press ONE button and you are able to access nearly every setting regarding sound. Another feature that really stood-out was the units mic calibration system that does quite well at detecting level, distance and such but moreover detects reverse-phase problems. If your speakers are out of phase they will sound odd and muffled no matter how well the amp is working. This feature is especially useful when using 6 surround sound speakers at once. Great power and dead quite. This is a superb effort by Yamaha. Five Stars.

5Great Receiver for the $$
By Erik
Just replaced my HTR-5760 Yamaha with this unit. HDMI setup and auto setup was a breeze, added some banana plugs and THX monster Wiring to my 3 Speaker setup from Athena Technologies. Only feature I miss was the direct bass crossover control rather than just a Large or Small speaker selection. Remote doesnt glow in the dark either, which isnt a huge deal 99% of the time, but was a surprising change from the HTR series remotes. Sound is super and would recommend this to anyone who doesn't have the need or budget for a 7.2 or 7.1 Receiver.

On-Screen Simple GUI (Graphical User Interface)

This clean and simple interface makes setup and other operations extremely easy. The on-screen display can show album art, provides a choice of various languages and is visible over 3D images.

1080p-Compatible HDMI with 3D and Audio Return Channel

Improve your home cinema experience with 105 watts per channel of powerful 5.1-channel surround sound, with the latest HD Audio format decoding: Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio. The 1080p-compatible HDMI (4 in/1 out) supports Deep Color (30/36 bit), x.v.Color, 24 Hz Refresh Rate and Auto Lip-Sync compensation, as well as the latest HDMI features like 3D and Audio Return Channel.

CINEMA DSP Digital for Enhanced Surround Realism

Conventional multi-channel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha CINEMA DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent sound fields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects ideally located in these separate sound fields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and startlingly realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater.

SILENT CINEMA and Virtual CINEMA DSP 3D

SILENT CINEMA, a variation of Yamaha's CINEMA DSP technology, makes it possible to listen in private to movies and other multi-channel sources for hours without listening fatigue. Virtual CINEMA DSP 3D lets you enjoy the effects of CINEMA DSP surround sound without using surround speakers (handy for use in custom installations where some rooms don't have surround speakers). It can be used with the front / center / presence speakers or even with just the two front left and right speakers.

Adaptive DRC (Dynamic Range Control)

Yamaha's Adaptive DRC technology automatically adjusts the dynamic range of the sound according to the volume that is selected. Adaptive DRC refines the dynamic range parameters to make low volume sounds easier to hear (narrower dynamic range) while retaining the massiveness felt during high volume (wider dynamic range). And because our ears lose sensitivity to low and high sounds as volume decreases, it continually adjusts these frequency ranges according to the volume and to the input signal level.

Compressed Music Enhancer Refreshes Your Music

Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3 and WMA. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible.

SCENE: A New Level of Operating Ease

Four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. They are initially set to default settings for DVD Viewing, Disc Listening, TV Viewing and Radio Listening. Push a SCENE button to automatically launch play of the preset source. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod Listening, XM Listening, TV Sports Viewing and Action Game Playing. Browse and select the settings quickly accomplished by rotating the Input knob and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use, or they can replace the original default settings. You can even change the SCENE names for convenience.

Audio Delay Compensation Keeps Your Experience On Track

The latest display devices perform complex internal processing, causing time lag in the video signal. It is a small difference, but because the audio arrives first, the viewer may feel that something is not natural. The Audio Delay function for adjusting Lip-Sync matches the audio to the timing of the output of the video on the screen (0-240ms).

The Yamaha YPAO
Included microphone designed for YPAO helps you easily set up your speaker system
YPAO Sound Optimization

YPAO sound optimization for automatic speaker setup lets you set up your surround sound speakers simply and easily. An included microphone designed for YPAO will help you set up your speakers for optimal performance, no matter the room.

@ Design

Auto Power Down after 4, 8 or 12 hours (selectable) and extremely low power consumption make this an @ receiver.

Expand Your Yamaha System with Convenient Connectivity

The optional YDS-12 Universal Dock lets you connect your iPod or iPhone to the receiver. And the YDS-12 is "Works with iPhone"-certified, so you can get the most out of your iPhone music library with zero hassles.

The optional YID-W10 Wireless Dock System for iPod/iPhone ensures that you enjoy maximum sound quality and no lip sync (AV matching) problems.

The optional YBA-10 Bluetooth Wireless Audio Receiver docks to the receiver and supports A2DP stereo audio streaming, so users can enjoy music wirelessly from Bluetooth-enabled smartphones, Windows PCs, and Macs.
