3Good Enough
By Gunner
There is nothing amazing about this unit. It does everything it says it does. My only complaint is that there is not enough audio control with this unit. You can choose from preset audio levels, but you can't control bass / treble. But, it is very cheap for what it is so it's hard to complain.

5Exceeded My Expectations!
By Dennis Crews
***Review Update 4 weeks in****Still love it...but one quirk I found. It was nearly impossible to figure out where to adjust the fader, bass, and treble. Searched all over the web and manufacturers site without answers. Finally emailed customer support and got the following answer. Easy but counter intuitive though works fine. Hard for me to find because I bought this to listen to digital music and rarely find myself on the radio screen where you adjust this>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The EQ setting need to be set to the off position in order to adjust the bass and the treble. To access the adjustment for the bass and treble you would need to be on the radio screen. At the top of the screen you will notice a small speaker icon. When you press that icon with your finger a small drop menu will come down and say VOL. You continue to press the speaker I con and the selection will change to BASS, TREBLE, BAL, and FADE. You can adjust those function by pressing the + and - buttons.INITIAL REVIEW>>>>>>>>>>

I installed this unit into a 2010 Nissan cube. While I am no audiophile, I do like to play my music loud and want the full range of bass and sound. Paired with a Dual powered subwoofer (also bought from Amazon and reviewed separately) it sounds absolutely awesome to me. The touch screen works great and can't believe the features packed into this for the price. I bought this unit because it has two USB inputs (standard in rear and mini USB on front) along with a SD card slot that is accessed behind screen. No special I-pod access, which for me is fine since I don't care anything about that. It does also have a aux input on the front to connect miscellaneous devices. The DVD player also works well, though I can't imagine when I will ever watch anything on it.....just came with the package. Like many of you, I was somewhat apprehensive about the Boss brand. The price just seemed too good to be a high quality unit. Boy was I wrong. I was willing to pay much more for a more name brand unit...but could not find anything that had the features this unit did. I suspect the ability to play digital media will become more main stream soon, but as of yet it seems a little spotty. Was really looking for SD card access, as I prefer that to the thumb drives. I have used both so far and they both work well. One thing to note though, like my wife's factory stereo in her Camry, the reader displays file names from the card rather than the tags on the MP3s. It displays the tagged song names when playing, but lacks the ability to find and sort like a MP3 player. It will trundicate the file names and sometimes is hard to identify the file. I went through and renamed album files with a shortened name to make it easier to identify from the information displayed. The blue tooth works well too, but as of yet I haven't seen the ability to download my phone contacts into it. It has other features like back up camera input that I have not chosen to use so cannot comment on. And finally as always, Amazon has been my retailer of choice for a long time. I always buy with confidence and they have never let me down. If need be, I would pay more for an item from Amazon because of this. Thankfully is almost never the case.

From the Manufacturer

Bluetooth Enabled

Bluetooth is a wireless technology present in many devices ranging from smart phones, tablets, and other hand-held devices to computers and even automobiles. It is a standard that enables the user to exchange information with (through) other devices that also have Bluetooth.

Bluetooth enabled means that the unit has the Bluetooth functionality already built-in and is therefore ready to use with another device that also has Bluetooth capability.

There are different profiles that make up the Bluetooth protocol. These profiles are what dictate exactly what can be exchanged between Bluetooth devices. This method of exchanging information is secure, often requiring a one-time pass code to link (or “pair”) the two devices to each other. Once a paired device is seen by the unit, it will automatically reconnect to that unit (as long as Bluetooth is turned on) establishing a secure connection every time.

The range of a Bluetooth device is determined (and denoted by “Class”). There are 3 classes that classic Bluetooth enabled radios fall into. Most units within the vehicle are in the “Class 2” range. This range will cover up to 10 meters (approximately) 33 feet.

Depending on the Bluetooth enabled device, different benefits can be enjoyed through Bluetooth. Following is a brief description of three Bluetooth profiles and the benefits this unit can provide to the user:

  • A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile): Allows the media source (smart phone, MP3 player, etc.) to stream audio content to the unit. In other words, using Bluetooth, the user could wirelessly transmit audio (music, podcasts, audio from a movie, etc.) from their smart phone to this Boss Audio multimedia player to be able to enjoy listening to that audio through the vehicle’s sound system.
  • HFP (Hands-free Profile): This allows a Bluetooth enabled device, such as this Boss Audio multimedia player, to become a hands-free device. The user will be able to make and receive calls through this Boss Audio source unit, which allows the driver to keep their head up, their eyes on the road, and both hands on the steering wheel. Safety first, please.
  • PBAP (Phonebook Access Profile): This allows a Bluetooth enabled device, such as this Boss Audio multimedia player, to gain access to the source’s (smart phone, etc.) contact directory. This allows the user to make and receive calls through this Boss Audio source unit as if the unit were the phone – complete with direct access to the phone’s contact list.

Steering Wheel Control Interface

Some newer vehicles now have the ability to control the radio from the steering wheel. The ability to continue to directly interface with those controls while using an upgraded multimedia unit from Boss Audio Systems makes the user experience even better than the original equipment (OE). This feature will have similar functionality as the OE unit from the steering wheel. One more way Boss Audio Systems helps drivers keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road. Be safe out there.

RDS (Radio Data System)

The Radio Data System is used to carry information over the FM band. Traffic information and radio station data are examples of the information available over RDS. Apart from this convenient information, RDS also allows the user to select the type of programming (i.e. news, music, sports, etc.). The station data includes song-related information, such as artist and song title.

Dual USB Ports (Front and Rear)

Two are always better than one, right? The same concept applies to the amount of inputs that a stereo can have. With two USB input options, the user can choose between a more concealed installation (rear) and a quick “on-the-go” input (front) for versatility, such as multiple passengers with multiple devices switching back and forth – sharing their tunes with each other.

Motorized Front Panel

Motorization of the front panel allows Boss Audio Systems to pack additional features (such as an SD card and multimedia player) behind the panel without sacrificing size. This preserves panel real estate allowing Boss to include a 7” diagonal touchscreen digital TFT panel on this unit, which gives the user maximum user enjoyment.

USB Port

With more devices going to a more universal type of peripheral, the USB port is a solution that enables the user to charge and listen to their device through the Boss Audio multimedia source unit. The Boss Audio unit will “see” most devices as flash drive. The user can change songs/folders as they would on any other player.

USB ports can be presented in different shapes. Below you will see the examples of what they look like. Regardless of their appearance, they have the same functionality. Usually the smaller sizes are reserved for the front USB port because of space restrictions. A flash drive can be used in the Type-A receptacle, while an adapter might be used to from Mini to Full-Size USB.

Rear-view Camera Input

Safety and convenience are two very important factors for people in most aspects of life. When we can build features into our products that make them safer and more convenient at the same time, we like to do it...which brings us to the rearview camera input! When the vehicle is equipped with a rearview camera, such as Boss’ LPC35, CAM22 and CAM25, this source unit will automatically switch to the rear view camera input when the driver puts the transmission into reverse. The screen on the source unit will show you what your rearview camera is directed at allowing the driver enhanced “vision” in difficult-to-see areas when parking or backing up.

Side Panel Aux Input

The Aux input allows virtually any personal media player (iPod, smart phone, tablet, etc.) with an output to plug into the front panel of this Boss Audio multimedia player and listen through the vehicle’s sound system. This provides maximum flexibility to the user. Do you have a buddy in the car that wants to share their library of music on the road? With an Aux input, that’s not a problem! It is the universal input that is device agnostic. In this case, the side panel Aux input is a stealthy input that is neatly positioned to be out of the way when not in use.

SD Memory Card Slot

An SD MMC memory card is another method of storing files. SD memory can be found in several different amounts of storage similar to flash drives.
